Permanent Residence via Express Extry

The Express Entry system is an electronic application management system that commenced in 2015. Foreign nationals applying for permanent residence under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Trades (FST) and Federal Skilled Workers (FSW) streams need to go through the Express Entry system in order to be invited by the government to apply for permanent residence.

Benefits of applying for permanent residence through the Express Entry System:

Innovative Electronic System: Under the Express Entry system, the whole processing of applications is done through an electronic system. It means no possibility for discrimination. Candidates are selected purely on the basis of their CRS scores.

Chances of Low Score Draws: In the coming few years, Canada is planning to welcome more immigrants to the country. As a result, the IRCC may reduce the minimum CRS score required to be selected in the Express Entry draws, as it has in the past (min. 75 points – February 2021). You could get lucky!

Faster pathway to Permanent Residency: The Express Entry process, from the submission of your Express Entry profile to the issuance of a permanent resident visa, can be completed in as little as six months. It’s important to note that processing times may vary in individual cases and may not always be as swift.

How Does Express Entry Work?

Applicants are required to create an online profile which is used to score the applicant using a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). These points are based on the applicant’s age, education, language test results, and Canadian and foreign work experience. If the applicant has a spouse or a common-law partner, the qualifications of their spouse/common-law partner are also assessed. Applicants are ranked against each other and ultimately the score determines whether or not they will be issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in Canada. Once an applicant has created an online profile, they are placed in the pool with all the other qualified applicants hoping to receive an ITA for one of the processing streams.

Applicants are ranked against one another and those with a higher CRS score will have the strongest chances of receiving an ITA. Draws are usually held on a bi-weekly basis and applicants who have the highest scores receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence. The minimum score changes depending on the value of the applicants in the selection pool and the number of invitations IRCC has planned to issue.
